The previous answers were good advice, but I want to add the possibility of becoming an optical engineer. You can design and build telescopes instead of just operate them. You can get a great job with just a masters in engineering–in fact, doctorates are fairly rare and might over-qualify you for some jobs. If your school doesn’t offer optical engineering, mechanical or electrical are also good choices for astronomy and telescope work.
Engineers on telescope projects usually have normal 9-5 jobs in a reasonably large city, but they sometimes go out to the observatory sites and work directly with the telescopes.
Another side benefit of the engineering degree is that it’s more broadly applicable–if your interests change, you’ll be well-qualified for lots of other jobs as well.

There are very few jobs in astronomy for people without a Ph.D., mostly technicians as others have suggested.
